Hi, I'm Alex Muir and I'm the person behind this site.  Back in 2011 I created a fairly simple website to explain a few bits on cars.   I thought Wikipedia was too dry and didn't have much practical information.  So I wrote some articles, and gathered some illustrations when I felt like it.  And things went slooowly.

In 2016 I spent a lot of time and effort updating the content and fixing the illustrations.  I launched the site in French at www.unevoiture.com and Spanish at www.comofuncionaunauto.com - both these translations were a commercial disaster but they are quite popular.

Making videos

By late 2017 the site was quite popular and a few people asked me if I could recommend a video course that would teach them mechanics.  I knew that there wasn't anything out there because I would have liked it too - so I set out to create one.  I was inspired by lots of different things:  A Car is Born, The Secret Life of Machines, and the practical parts of Wheeler Dealers.  So I bought a Mazda MX5 Miata, stripped it down to the last bolt, modelled the whole thing in 3D and then reassembled it.  I'm still working on it but so far we've made over 12 hours of finished pro-quality videos and people love it.  It's been the best project I ever did.

So that's the story of this site, and also the story of the last couple of years of my life!
